"not for canada - australian in disguise" (for-canada)
08/08/2016 at 22:07 • Filed to: MAZDA | 3 | 26 |
I think I’ve made that clear several times now. I’ll spare my dislike of them for the rotaries, even if I’ll never own one as I’m terrified of them, and cars like the 929 and first gen MPV. But for the most part, I really don’t like Mazda that much. BUT. I commend them for selling a midsize hatchback in North America. It sold like shit, but damnit, they tried.
I’m writing this basically only because I saw one today.

My step-grandmother has one of these in four-cylinder form. It’s pretty damn great. I’d recommend it.

My wife and I (and our future child) don’t really like Mazda, either.
Wait. What?

Bbbbbut Miata ! A fully agree with you. They are definitely an over rated brand, especially among the automotive community.

Does it hurt to be so mean? Like, are you just hurting inside and have to make others hurt with your cruel words?

Had a buddy in high school who had one of those 626 4dr hatches. Nifty little car and super useful, (though no headroom...)

I think we should all start calling them matsudas, it’ll make them seem fancier, like when people say Porsche right.

I loved my 6 hatch. And my RX8. And the Miata! I’d own another Mazda in a heartbeat! Also, apparently I like rear 3/4 pictures.

What’s not to like? I think for the last decade or so they’ve been some of the best looking cars on the road at any price. You look at the over-styled crap coming from Nissan, Lexus, Hyundai, Mercedes, even BMW in parts, and the Mazdas look clean yet shapely.
Plus, Mazda make one of the only sports cars left to come out of Japan. They’re keeping that battle alive, where the Supra/Celica/Silvia/RX/3000GT/S2K/NSX/etc have fallen.

I won’t hold it against you since you’re presenting your opinion rather reasonably, but I respectfully must disagree. They’re the only ones who are willing to sell a ‘90s-style line-up in 2016. As cars get bigger and more isolated, Mazda is the only one left who will actually sell you something that might bring back memories of that old Accord you might have had in high school or even traces of your dad’s old Alfa. Granted, besides driving pretty well they’re midpack in everything else (although they look a lot better than, say, the Altima), but as I always say, there’s a place for everyone in this automotive world.

Ugh, go away. I need one of these parked next to a YS3G 9-5 in my garage someday. Two well rounded sedans from dying automakers that came too late to save them, unfortunately.
